Morning crash downtown sends one to hospital

A single vehicle crash in downtown Red Deer Monday morning has put one woman in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Cpl. Dwayne Friesen confirms the crash happened around 8 a.m. in the westbound lanes of 55 Street near 48 Avenue.

While not confirmed, it is believed mechanical failure may have contributed to the crash. The SUV involved ended up on its roof in the incident.

Red Deer Emergency Services had to extricate both the driver and a passenger using the ‘jaws of life.’ The driver went to hospital for precautionary reasons, while the passenger came away unharmed.
