Alberta RCMP updates property crime stats website

Sep 5, 2019 | 2:33 PM

Alberta RCMP has updated its Data and Innovation website, launched this past April, to include select property crime statistics from all detachments in the province for the second quarter of 2019.

Mounties say the web page highlights key crime statistics and information on crime reduction policing initiatives across Alberta.

“A dynamic, provincially coordinated crime reduction program, supported by intelligence shared with our law enforcement and government partners, will reduce calls for service and decrease crime – keeping Albertans safe. In addition to advancements in our policing initiatives, we are committed to being transparent and inclusive with the citizens we serve,” says Superintendent Peter Tewfik, Officer in Charge, Alberta RCMP Crime Reduction Strategy.

According to the website, the Red Deer RCMP Detachment saw an 18 per cent increase in break and enters from January to June 2019 compared to the first half of last year. The numbers also show a 61 per cent jump in motor vehicle thefts, 15 per cent in thefts over/under $5000, and 36 per cent rise in possession of stolen goods cases.
