Search continues for driver who nearly hit officers, child in Riverside Meadows

There was a heavy police presence in the Riverside Meadows neighbourhood Thursday as Red Deer Mounties searched for a driver who nearly hit officers and a child while fleeing from being arrested.

At approximately 4:22 p.m. when Red Deer RCMP were investigating a possession of stolen property complaint at the 4000 Block of 41 Avenue, officers noted an occupied vehicle nearby with a stolen plate.

When the male driver of the vehicle was told he was under arrest, he fled nearly hitting the officers in the process.

Police then received several calls of an erratic driver reported to have hit parked vehicles and nearly hitting a child pedestrian. Police determined it to be the same vehicle that fled the original scene.

RCMP say they have since located the vehicle and are still seeking to locate the male driver involved. The suspect was last seen in the Riverside Meadows area.
