A former Red Deer man who crashed his company truck through the front doors of the Lion’s Den Pub at the Quality Inn last fall has been given a four-month Conditional Sentence Order (CSO).

Bradley Fisher, 28, was originally scheduled for trial Thursday in Red Deer Provincial Court. However, lawyers entered a joint submission, advising Judge Bert Skinner the matter could be resolved without trial.

Fisher originally pleaded not guilty last fall to all four counts against him. His charges included impaired operation of a motor vehicle, impaired operation over 80 mg per cent of motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and mischief over $5,000.

On Thursday, defense lawyer Will Wilms amended two of Fisher’s pleas to guilty to impaired operation over 80 mg per cent of motor vehicle and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

Fisher’s two remaining charges were dropped.

As a result, the joint submission included a four-month Conditional Sentence Order containing restrictions such as a curfew and no-alcohol consumption and the CSO to be followed by 18 months of probation with a one-year driving suspension.

Fisher, who now lives in Edmonton, was also handed a $1,200 fine and ordered to pay $18,856 in restitution to the insurance company of his now former employer.

In sentencing, Justice Skinner told Fisher, “You’re very fortunate no one was injured or killed by your activities.”

On Sept. 22, 2018, Red Deer RCMP arrested and charged a man who drove a truck through the front doors of a north end pub, causing roughly $33,000 in damage.

Occupants of the establishment restrained the driver until police arrived.
