Teen hit by SUV in east Red Deer

A 14-year-old boy was taken to hospital after being hit by an SUV in Red Deer’s Eastview Estates neighbourhood on Monday.
Mounties responded to the scene at 5:22 p.m. and blocked off traffic along Ellenwood Dr. between Erickson Dr. and 30 Avenue while a collision analyst investigated.
Cst. Derek Turner says the victim was breathing but unconscious when he was taken by ambulance to hospital in Red Deer and later by STARS to Calgary. The extent of his injuries are unknown but described as serious.
Police say the collision did not occur inside a crosswalk, while Turner says the driver and lone occupant of the eastbound SUV was not injured.
