Hunt is on for classic car thief

STRATHMORE- A classic car owner has been reunited with his vintage 1961 Impala as a result of a joint investigation between the Strathmore RCMP and the Calgary Police Service Auto Theft Team.

As a result of this investigation, 34-year old Sean Russell Jansen has been charged and is currently wanted on arrest warrants.

At 4:54 p.m. on July 4, a citizen in Strathmore reported his Impala stolen from a storage facility. Several tips and leads were followed up on, and the Forensic Identification Section became involved in the investigation.

By July 10, the vehicle was recovered in Calgary by Calgary Police Service patrol officers.

A suspect was identified.

On July 30, charges were sworn against Jansen by the RCMP.

He is charged with theft of vehicle and break and enter.

An arrest warrant has been issued as the RCMP have not located him.

Calgary Police Service have also charged Jansen with possession of stolen property over $5,000, and have an arrest warrant for him.

Police remind the public to be cautious when having unknown people test drive a vehicle.

It is a good practice to get their name, supported by a photo of their driver’s license.

Remember, if a person doesn’t have an active driver’s license they shouldn’t be driving your car.

As well, note any license plate of a vehicle they may be driving.

In this case, the owner of the Impala was very alert to assisting the RCMP and CPS with this investigation.
