UCP accused of raining on NDP’s good news parade

EDMONTON- The Kenney government is being accused by the Opposition NDP of misleading the public about the province’s finances.

A quarterly fiscal report released last Friday shows the province’s deficit had shrunk to $6.7 billion, or about $2.1 billion lower than projected by the NDP.

The Opposition says the numbers are proof it was on the right track when it was in power, and that a quiet release of the report by the United Conservative government is an attempt to cover up good news.

During question period on Tuesday, Premier Jason Kenney said the NDP lost the spring election because it had one of the worst fiscal records in Alberta history.
