Edmonton parents charged following ALERT drug bust

EDMONTON- A city couple has been charged with child endangerment after an ALERT investigation found evidence of drug trafficking and the presence of firearms.

ALERT Edmonton’s organized crime team seized nearly three kilograms of cocaine, two loaded handguns, and an assortment of suspected proceeds of crime following a two-month investigation.

Two west Edmonton homes were searched on May 23, including a family residence where two young children lived.

ALERT’s investigation found evidence that the children were present during drug transactions.

The parents were charged under Alberta’s Drug-Endangered Children Act.

A 38-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman also face a range of drug and firearm-related offences.

A third suspect, a 23-year-old woman, was also charged.

ALERT is not providing their names in order to protect the identities of the children.

The total value of the drugs seized is estimated at $300,000, and includes:

– 2.73 kilograms of cocaine
– 211 grams of crack cocaine
– 571 grams of a cocaine buffing agent
– A stolen Kel-Tec handgun
– A restricted Kimber handgun

ALERT also seized more than $200,000 worth of offence-related property and cash.

Three luxury vehicles were seized, along with a motorcycle, a pontoon boat, and $3,000 cash.

ALERT alleges the property was purchased with drug proceeds.
