Charges laid, suspects still at large in attack outside Red Deer restaurant

May 31, 2019 | 1:55 PM

An investigation into the alleged beating of a man outside a Red Deer restaurant last winter has led to charges against one suspect, but police believe there are are likely others.

It was January 11 at around 10 p.m. when Red Deer RCMP responded to a call about a man being attacked by several people outside One Eleven Grill near Taylor Drive and 43 Street.

The victim sustained serious facial injuries and required extensive medical treatment.

Andrew Sandness, 33, of Red Deer, is charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. A preliminary hearing is set for October 8.

“Although charges have been laid, based on the investigation and interviews already conducted, the RCMP believe that there are other persons involved in this crime,” the detachment notes.

Red Deer RCMP are asking the public’s assistance for any information in relation to this incident (or identifying those responsible). Please contact your local police or Red Deer RCMP 403-343-5575.
