RCMP foot patrol, DBA moving to Little Gaetz

Red Deer RCMP and the Red Deer Downtown Business Association (DBA) are teaming up for moves, literally, to tackle needle debris and loitering issues plaguing downtown Red Deer.

On June 10, the DBA and RCMP Downtown Unit will move into new locations at 5009-50 Ave. as part of The City’s commitment to economic development and community safety, according to a City media release.

The DBA and RCMP Downtown Unit will share this building with Alberta Innovates and Catapult Entrepreneurs.

Meantime, The City’s Land and Economic Development will operate out of the DBA’s former office at 5000-51 Ave. effective June 24.

“The City of Red Deer is committed to supporting a safe and vibrant downtown,” said Allan Seabrooke, City Manager. “By having Land and Economic Development, Culture Services and RCMP Downtown Unit all located in our city’s core, we are creating an environment that encourages all facets of a healthy downtown: business, culture and safety.”

“We are very much looking forward to the move. To have the opportunity to directly impact businesses positively in this area, does not happen often,” said Amanda Gould, Executive Director of the DBA. “This space has been derelict for many years. Co-locating with the RCMP Downtown Beat patrol, is a huge win for all of Downtown and shows our community that we are serious about increasing positivity and will do whatever it takes to build a vibrant, engaged and healthy heart of the city.”

Recently, The City’s Culture Services department relocated from 39 Street to the former Central Intermediate School located at 5205-48 Ave., which served as head office for the 2019 Canada Winter Games, and is offering their culture programming out of this location.

The public will have an opportunity to tour these new spaces at an open house event on July 5.

More details about the moves will be shared at a media conference Wednesday at 11 a.m.
