hope, joy, resilience

Local artists create paintings of hope for Mustard Seed users

A series of paintings being donated to The Mustard Seed aims to inspire hope, joy and resilience among those who utilize their facility in Red Deer.

Local artist Erin Boake, owner and operator of Artribute Art School, created the paintings with the help of four of her students: Bailey Froese, Abbey Ricker, Emma Laing and Briana Stewart.

“I like to help our community as best as I can and in whatever way I can,” Boake said Saturday at The Mustard Seed. “If this is what it is, I’ll help it be beautiful here for those who need it.”

The pieces took six hours to complete says Boake, who has a degree in painting from Red Deer College.

Scott Tilbury, Fund Development Officer with The Mustard Seed, says they are overjoyed to receive the paintings.

“We build hope here at The Mustard Seed, and these murals will do that, they will encourage people. Every person has a story to tell, everyone is going through a different walk, has a different personality, is at a different place in their journey as they are moving forward from a life of poverty,” Tilbury said.

“To have representation of an individual that is troubled and going through some challenges, to that resilient person, to the person who has moved beyond, there’s a great element of joy there to say it is worth it, you are valued, and there is dignity.”
