Red Deer College thanked longtime community partner Melcor in a private ceremony at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre this week for its commitment to education in a diverse range of programs.

The company was honoured with the naming of the Melcor Developments Ltd. Movement Studio in recognition of its support for the Shaping our Future campaign.

The specially designed studio offers recreational athletes and learners in the Health Sciences and Kinesiology & Sports Studies programs a unique space to learn, practice and meditate.

“We are very proud to have been able to support the construction of this amazing facility,” says RDC alumnus Guy Pelletier, who is also Melcor Vice President, Red Deer region.

“The Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre is transformational for RDC and the city of Red Deer. Melcor recognizes the critical importance of education along with health and wellness in helping our communities prosper, and we have invested in institutions around the province that are committed to delivering these services.”

Melcor has also supported RDC over the course of 25 years with an endowment which funds seven annual scholarships.

“Melcor’s support for our College is a true partnership. As a significant employer in our region, and as an organization committed to supporting healthy communities, Melcor recognizes the value of Red Deer College to central Alberta,” says Joel Ward, RDC President & CEO.

“Melcor believes in our capacity to train our region’s workforce and inspire the kind of community leadership that will contribute to growth and prosperity in central Alberta. We’re grateful to have had them as partners, and we look forward to continuing to work together as we transition into Red Deer University.”
