Women’s Fun Run brings out 1200 in support of school lunch program

May 12, 2019 | 9:18 PM

Another year of the Primary Care Network Women’s Fun Run is in the books.

An estimated 1200+ people took part, believed to be a record for the event, which is now in its eighth year.

Asked what the ultimate goal of the event is, Race Coordinator Val Jensen said it’s all about fun.

“When I started this eight years ago, I wanted to see women and little girls more active. Once I did that, I said well if we’re going to do this, how can we raise money? she remarked.

“I just want to see little girls realize at a young age that it’s fun to run. I want them to say ‘Mommy Mommy, I want to run more, when can we go to the next one?'”

This year’s race once again benefited The Mustard Seed’s School Lunch Program, which sees close to 400 lunches go out to more than 30 local schools daily.

“A lot of us didn’t realize that Loaves and Fishes and now The Mustard Seed does the lunches for the schools,” Jensen admitted. “I for one thought every school did their own. That’s when I jumped on board with them as my charity.”

Jensen also commented on the exemplary work done by The Mustard Seed with the city’s homeless population.
