Local business owner wins vacant seat on Rocky town council

Dave Auld has won the municipal by-election for a seat on Rocky Mountain House town council.

Held on May 3, Auld received 176 votes in the by-election, the most among the seven candidates who were vying for the spot left open by Scott Collinson, who resigned in February.

Auld is a local business owner; he and his family moved to Rocky Mountain House in 2002.

“I feel a little overwhelmed by the support of the residents of Rocky Mountain House,” Auld told rockynewsNOW on Saturday. “There were very good people running for this single position on town council and the fact that I was voted in is very humbling.”

The 43-year-old adds that he wants to bring an open mind to council.

“I will be very focused on trying to help the businesses that are existing in town grow, as well as pushing for new business to invest in Rocky,” he says. “We need to think outside of the box and explore new opportunities that are out there.”

Unofficial results indicate 12 per cent of eligible voters cast a ballot.

The results will be made official on Tuesday, May 7 at noon.

Coming in second place was Terri Kalyn who garnered 141 votes, William Snyder had 109, and the next highest was Nathan Turner with 96.

Per the Municipal Government Act, the Town was required to hold a by-election within 90 days of the seat being vacated.
