RDC Alumni Association hosts Annual Fine Wine and Food Tasting

RDC’s Alumni Association stands to benefit from another successful Fine Wine and Food Tasting event Thursday night.

This year, the 15th annual celebration was held in the Cenovus Energy Learning Common at Red Deer College and featured wine, food, craft beer and spirits vendors from across central Alberta.

College officials say the elegant evening began with a VIP pairing session for 24 guests, while representatives from Troubled Monk, Crimson Imports and Celestial Wine & Spirits presented beverage pairings for each of the meal’s three courses.

Meanwhile, the lobster and scallop ceviche appetizer and beef tenderloin main course were prepared by the RDC Cook Apprentice Program and presented by Red Seal Chef and Instructor, Garnett Schoettler.

A tropical brandy pavlova topped with fresh fruit and French macarons by Sugar by Tracy was served for dessert.

Guests of the VIP session were then said to join more than 300 attendees of the sold-out main event in sampling food and beverages from some of the region’s most innovative and talented creators, including many alumni-owned businesses.

Local brewers, restauranteurs, distillers and importers served up creative food and drink options while alumni and supporters networked with vendors and each other.

The Fine Wine & Food Tasting raises funds for the RDC Alumni Association, which supports six annual scholarships as well as alumni engagement events throughout the year.

“We’re really lucky to have such an engaged community of alumni and supporters who make this event such a resounding success, year after year,” says Janice Wing, RDC’s Director of Community Relations, in a press release. “We’ve had many opportunities to connect with our community this year, but the Fine Wine & Food Tasting brings so many of us together, and gives us the chance to share a really lovely and delicious experience.”
