Westerner Days 2019 promises to be “Well Worth the Ride”

May 1, 2019 | 4:22 PM

This year’s edition of Westerner Days in Red Deer promises to be “Well Worth The Ride”.

That according to Nancy Paish, Business Development Manager for Westerner Park who identified the phrase as this year’s theme for the largest annual summer celebration in central Alberta.

Details for this year’s event (July 17-21) were unveiled Tuesday at Westerner Park’s new Exhibition Hall.

Paish says “Well Worth The Ride” is a theme focused on creating value for Fair attendees, as sharing experiences and memories with loved ones is invaluable.

“Some of the neat experience opportunities that we have on-site at Westerner Days this year, we have an animatronic dinosaur exhibition that’s sure to amaze,” she exclaims. “It’s going to take over the Exhibition Hall and offer families the opportunity to experience dinosaurs in a new way. We’re also introducing a Glow Night in conjunction with our Friday night concert.”

Paish anticipates a memorable experience for all who attend.

“We’re going to have LED hoopers, glow swag and other things that guests and fans can come and enjoy the music but also have a fun time,” she explains. “We have more midway rides for family as well as the young adults and adults. We also have lots of activities with the midway games.”

In addition, Paish says the Grub Hub is going to be huge this year as well.

“Some of the food we have is just incredible,” she adds. “You can actually drink fruit from fruit this year.”

Paish says Ride All Day (RAD) Passes for Westerner Days go on sale May 1.

“The opportunity to purchase at a 30 per cent discount starts on May 1,” she explains. “That’s available online until June 1. Then we go onsite at central Alberta Coop locations where people can go right into the store and purchase their RAD passes at a discount rate as well.”

Westerner Park officials say Luminescent performances will be presented by the Forum Red Deer, while the Laughing Loggers are anticipated to bring fresh entertainment to the Amphitheatre this year. The comedic lumberjack show is said to feature interactive axe throwing, chainsaw wood carving, and the ultimate entertainment show that will have you ‘laughing like a possum in a pine tree’!

Food offerings at the Fair are also expected to impress. Families will be able to kick back at the Bud Barn & Beer Gardens until 8:00 p.m. to enjoy a farm-to-fork style meal, while the young adults will appreciate the extended outdoor seating and local entertainment inside.
