Feb 8, 2018 | 6:56 AM

EDSON- An RCMP officer was dragged by a vehicle in Edson yesterday afternoon while trying to arrest a driver on outstanding warrants.

The officer attempted to arrest the driver at a gas station around 2 p.m., but the suspect reversed and the Mountie was dragged until he was able to free himself when the vehicle struck another automobile.

The fleeing driver was later arrested after intentionally ramming a police cruiser with one officer inside at a blocked intersection.

Devin Okrainetz, 41, of Edson has been charged with assault on a police officer with a weapon, resisting arrest, obstructing a peace officer, flight from police, failing to remain at the scene of an accident and failing to abide by release conditions.

At the time he was wanted on eight outstanding warrants out of Edson and Hinton, for offences including break and enter to commit assault, and possession of property obtained by crime.

A female passenger was released without charges.

The officer, who was dragged, was treated in hospital for minor injuries and released.

The officer inside the police cruiser was not hurt.
