Red Deer RCMP warn of online job scams

Aug 13, 2018 | 2:14 PM

Local Mounties are warning the public to do their research before sending personal information when applying for online job postings.

This after RCMP received a report on August 8 from a Red Deer man who applied for a construction job he saw online.

Police say the man was asked for his personal information and then asked for a $25 fee to process his application. This roused suspicion from the job seeker and follow up research showed the company name being used in the job ad had previously been a legitimate business but was no longer operating.

RCMP say other online job scams previously reported also involved the illegitimate use of legitimate company names or have involved job seekers being asked to make suspicious money transfers or pass bad cheques.
