Construction to begin on major route

Aug 1, 2018 | 11:25 AM

Construction will soon begin on Highway 598 from Rocky Mountain House to Leslieville.

“We’ll start mobilizing equipment on Wednesday, and begin construction on Thursday, weather permitting,” says Howie Hedges, Project Manager with WSP Group.

Highway 598 is a provincially owned highway, so Alberta Transportation handles maintenance and repairs.

The project will stretch from Highway 11 to Highway 761, fixing a variety of issues that have arisen on the roadway.

According to Hedges, construction will begin about six kilometres from Rocky Mountain House with the removal of two roadside pull outs East of Range Road 70A

Other grading work includes minor curve widening, an access removal, culvert repairs, guardrail replacement and installation of High Tension Cable Barrier.

Milling and paving is expected to begin in mid-August and will last roughly two weeks.

Alberta Transportation says drivers may experience speed reductions, lane closures and minor delays.

No detours are anticipated, and signage with additional information will be posted on site during construction.

In addition, a traffic accommodation strategy is in place, which includes additional signage, delineation and illumination if required.

Construction will occur during daylight hours, and should seize during the long weekend.

Hedges says the project should be finished by the third week of August.
