Quebec gymnast becomes most-decorated Canada Winter Games athlete

The Canada Winter Games has produced many decorated athletes, but one stands alone as the most decorated athlete in Games history.

Felix Dolci, artistic gymnast from Team Quebec, has now won 11 medals over two Canada Winter Games. He won six medals in 2015 in Prince George, and he has picked up another five here in Red Deer.

“I’m really proud of my work, I work really had in the gym with the team. It’s been like a lot of years I’m working for that,” he said Friday. “I’m really happy about being here and having a good result in my competition(s).”

Dolci talked about how special the Canada Games is, and how it’s second to no other competition as far as he’s concerned.

“I think the huge difference is all the team spirit around the Canada Games. Everyone is competing for their province, making friends, having a really good atmosphere. So I think that’s really the big difference in the games.

“You create like new friendships, you see new sports, you go watch new stuff, so it’s absolutely unbelievable.”

Dolci also has his mind set on what’s next for him, and laid out his plans for the future.

“Right now, in long terms I’m really aiming for (the) 2020 Olympics (in) Tokyo. So yeah, I’m going to work really hard for this and keep on working every day for achieving my goal.”

“Even getting to the Canada Games is an incredible accomplishment let alone setting a new record,” says David Patterson, President and CEO of the Canada Games Council. “Félix’s impressive achievement speaks to his commitment to sport and his dedication to being the best gymnast he can be. We can’t wait to see what he does next.” 

Dolci also had some advice for any young gymnasts hoping to one-day win Canada Games medals of their own.

“Honestly, if I have to say something it’s just work hard and keep dreaming and one day you’ll achieve what you want if you do what you have to do.”
