Lacombe traffic stop turns up firearms, meth

Two men are in custody following a routine traffic stop that led to the discovery of methamphetamine and illegal firearms.

Lacombe police conducted a routine traffic stop on February 25. It was soon discovered that a male in the vehicle had broken his curfew conditions and was arrested. A further search of the vehicle led to the discovery of two loaded firearms and methamphetamine.

During the search, another suspect associated to the man in the vehicle was seen walking around in the area. Police later learned this individual was also in possession of a firearm.

Officers searched the area and located the firearm and arrested the individual. Upon his arrested they discovered he was also in possession of methamphetamine and ammunition.

Lyle Robert Vance, 26, of Red Deer has been charged with 14 offences including obstruction of a peace officer, careless storage of a firearm, possession of a unauthorized firearm, possession of a dangerous weapon, possession of a firearm while un-authorized, possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of a firearm knowing possession is unauthorized, unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, unauthorized possession of a loaded prohibited firearm, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a firearm in a contravention or order and breach of condition.

The second suspect, 35-year-old Brent Hladun of Lacombe, has been charged with five offences including unauthorized possession of an unloaded firearm, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a firearm with no serial number and failure to comply with probation.
