A multi-sport competitive athlete from Lindsay Thurber High School in Red Deer has been named Alberta Sport Development Centre-Central’s (ASDC-C) Athlete of the Month.

Claire Booth is a 15-year-old grade 10 student and a competitive curler and softball athlete from Red Deer.

Booth has been curling for seven years and this past season, competed in the Alberta U18 Curling Tour, qualifying for Alberta U15 Bantam Championships and was a  Red Deer Junior Curling Academy Silver Medallist.

Last season, Booth and her teammates captured the Gold Medal at Alberta U15 Bantam Championships, won the Red Deer Junior League, and competed in the 2019 Jeux Canada Winter Games Pre-Trials.

ASDC-Central officials say Booth’s short terms goal for next season is to win the U18 Curling Provincials and represent Alberta at the Canadian Curling Championships. Booth’s long term goal is competing at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

In the classroom, Booth is said to excel as an Honours Student since Grade 6 and last year was named an Honours Student with Distinction.

Booth’s goals in the classroom are to remain an Honours student and attend university in the medical field.

ASDC-Central officials say Booth also likes to keep herself busy with other sports and enjoys travelling and hanging out with her friends.
