Red Deer’s tree-trimming near power lines program starts November 6

Nov 5, 2017 | 4:19 PM

Red Deer’s annual tree-trimming program starts Monday, November 6, in efforts to trim any trees encroaching onto City-owned power lines.

This means ArborCare Tree Service Ltd will start trimming City-owned and customer-owned trees on behalf of the City to maintain clearance distances from high-voltage and secondary-voltage power lines, as set out in the Alberta Electrical Utility Code.

This work is to ensure tree limbs are trimmed away from power lines in order to maintain public safety and the reliability of electrical service in Red Deer. However, City officials note property owners are responsible for keeping trees trimmed back from low voltage service wires to their residence. EL&P contractors are not responsible for those lines.

Red Deerians are reminded to stay clear of personnel and equipment while this work takes place over the next two to three months.
