RCMP targeting noisy vehicles in Red Deer

Red Deer RCMP and Community Peace Officers are continuing their efforts to cut down on the amount of excessive vehicle noise in the city.

Between July 4 and August 22, Mounties and CPOs on patrol issued 20 tickets to drivers for excessive levels of vehicle noise. In addition, officers handed out 12 Traffic Vehicle Notices requiring drivers to modify their vehicles, either to repair a faulty muffler or to remove after-factory modifications that increase the noise of the vehicle.

Some of those tickets were the result of complaints from citizens that included a vehicle description and license plate so that officers could follow up. Others were the result of officers encountering loud vehicles during patrols.

In a release, Corporal Karyn Kay says “RCMP regularly receive complaints about vehicle noise from citizens across the community, and modified mufflers are the biggest issue in creating excessive vehicle pollution.”  Kay adds, “Drivers should be aware that they risk fines if their vehicle noise is in violation of traffic laws and City of Red Deer bylaws.”
