The Red Deer Rebels won their second straight game on Saturday night.

At the Temple Gardens Centre in Moose Jaw, the Rebels defeated the Warriors 5-2, following a standout performance from forward Poul Andersen.

Andersen led the way offensively with four goals and an assist, and captain Beckett Hamilton recorded three assists, while rookie Paxson Madill added three assists.

Rebels rookie goaltender Nathan Salisbury stopped 36 of 38 shots faced to earn his first victory.

Rebels defenceman Kaden Meyer scored on the team’s first shot of the game just 3:35 in. He capitalized on an opportunity in front of the net off an impressive feed from Andersen. Hamilton also earned an assist on the play.

Their lead, however, was short-lived as the Warriors tied it 16 seconds later off the stick of Brady Ness.

Andersen then restored the Rebels’ lead on the offensive rush shortly after a Warriors power play ended. He scored on a perfect shot 7:14 into the opening frame, assisted by Madill.

Moose Jaw found the equalizer midway through the period, scored by Luke Moroz.

In the second period, Andersen completed the hat trick with two goals to give the team a 4-2 lead.

His first came with under six minutes left in the period while on the man advantage. He knocked in the puck from the left side of the net after a nifty pass from Hamilton.

Andersen added his third goal of the evening over two minutes later to give the Rebels some breathing room. He hammered a shot past the goaltender on a one-timer opportunity from Madill.

In the third period, the Warriors nearly got back into the game but hit the crossbar twice. Instead, Andersen scored an empty-net goal to seal the deal late in the frame.

Hamilton and Andersen now lead the entire Western Hockey League in goals and points. Andersen has seven goals and 14 points, while Hamilton has five goals and 11 points.

Red Deer also remains at the top of the Eastern Conference standings with a 4-2-0-1 record.

Next up, the Rebels will welcome the Calgary Hitmen to the Centrium to kick off the Thanksgiving long weekend on Friday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m.

Red Deer will then face off against the Edmonton Oil Kings on Thanksgiving Monday, Oct. 12 at 2 p.m.
