Apr 18, 2026 | 7:59 PM

Two youths, one male and one female, are facing charges following a stabbing in the downtown core Friday evening.

Red Deer RCMP officers responded at about 9:05 on April 17 to an area near 49 Avenue (Gaetz northbound) and 51 Street, confirms Cpl. Gina Slaney, Alberta RCMP. Upon arrival, it was determined there had been an altercation between a group of youth.

One female youth was struck in the head with an object, and a second female was stabbed. Both victims, who are 14- and 15-years-old, were sent to hospital and treated for their injuries.

There was a heavy police presence, with Mounties noting there was no risk to the public.

Two youths, both aged 16, were arrested and charged with aggravated assault and assault with a weapon; they cannot be named.

The female was released with a court date on April 30, and the male was remanded with a court date on April 20.

Though unconnected, this incident comes less than a month after two youths threatened another youth and took their backpack near City Hall; that happened March 24.
