Apr 16, 2026 | 4:09 PM

Red Deer RCMP recently teamed up with local search and rescue teams to locate a missing elderly woman.

They say that at about 2:20 p.m. on April 10, Mounties received a report of a missing elderly woman from the South Hill area. The woman was with family but wandered away unnoticed from appointment.

The family had conducted a preliminary search and then contacted RCMP for assistance. Initially, Police Dog Services and the Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) were used, but to no avail.

At 4:30, RCMP engaged the Central Zone Search and Rescue, and the Red Deer County Search and Rescue, to assist.

At around 7:30, the woman was located unharmed in the downtown area. Red Deer-Victim Services Unit provided support to the family.

“Early activation of external resources was necessary with the urgency of the situation, and it resulted in a successful location of the missing person,” said Chad Reed, SAR Manager with Central Zone Search and Rescue.

Added Sgt. Dewald Steyn, with Red Deer RCMP: “This outcome reflects the strength of our partnerships and our shared commitment to public safety.”
