Innisfail firefighter honoured for 50 years of service

Innisfail firefighter John Syroid has been honoured for 50 years of service in the community and the surrounding area.

Members of Innisfail’s Fire & Protective Services Department honoured Syroid by holding a special dinner on Friday, March 20, at the Innisfail Golf Club.

He also received the Canadian Volunteer Fire Services Association’s Municipal Long Service Award, which is a gold medal presented for 50+ years of service.

“This is an incredible achievement, and we’re happy to be able to officially recognize John through this evening’s event,” said Gary Leith, Innisfail’s Director of Protective Services, in a media release.

Syroid moved to Innisfail in 1969 and joined the Innisfail Fire Department on February 14, 1976.

Throughout his time, he served as a captain and deputy chief before he was promoted to chief in 2003. He held that position until 2013 and remains an active member of the department to this day.
