Mar 25, 2026 | 5:07 PM

Red Deer RCMP, alongside City of Red Deer Community Peace Officers, focused on removing impaired drivers from the streets during National Impaired Driving Prevention Week.

From March 15-21, Red Deer RCMP Traffic Services, General Duty Police Officers, and City of Red Deer CPO’s worked to stop impaired drivers in different parts of the city.

They accomplished this through proactive traffic enforcement and through calls to police. As a result, 10 drivers impaired by drugs and alcohol now face impaired driving penalties.

These include a female driver who was driving impaired with three children in the vehicle. Another instance includes one male driver who was arrested on outstanding warrants from Calgary.

Police say on March 21, the RCMP and CPOs conducted a check stop on 30th Avenue and Crossley Street in Red Deer. Approximately 45 vehicles were checked for impairment and documentation over a one-hour time frame. Of that, 25 motorists completed mandatory alcohol screening. One driver was found to be driving while suspended.

Police were elated that not a single driver during the checkstop was found to be impaired.
