The Lacombe Police Service arrested a 31-year-old man for impaired driving last week.

Police say on Saturday, shortly after midnight, during a proactive patrol, they noticed a dark blue Ford F-350 idling and parked facing the wrong direction in the northbound lane of 50 Street near 50 Avenue. The truck was also partially obstructing traffic.

An officer approached the truck and identified the driver, a 31-year-old Lacombe resident, who displayed signs of alcohol impairment. He was issued a roadside screening device and failed the test.

As a result, he was placed under arrest for impaired driving.

Afterwards, during their investigation, they found open liquor and cannabis in the vehicle.

Patrons from a nearby business also reported that their vehicles had been broken into and had property stolen. The police determined that the man had entered the two parked vehicles and stole several items.

Police searched the truck and found the stolen property, which included personal belongings, tools, and sporting equipment. The value of the items exceeded $5,000. The items were then returned to their rightful owners.

The man was held in Lacombe Police Service cells until he was sober, then released on an undertaking.

He is set to appear in Red Deer Provincial Court on May 6, 2026.

He faces charges of theft over $5,000, two counts of theft under $5,000, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. In addition, he was issued multiple provincial violation tickets and an immediate roadside administrative penalty related to impaired driving.

“This incident highlights the importance of proactive patrol and the role it plays in identifying impaired drivers and preventing further criminal activity in our community,” said S/Sgt. Bryan Zens.
