A presentation set to be led by the organizer of the Forever Canadian petition, Thomas Lukaszuk, is coming to Red Deer.

On Friday, March 27, the Forever Canadian: Why Unity Matters event, sponsored by the Red Deer Chapter of the Council of Canadians, will take place at the Golden Circle Senior Resource Centre from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Admission is $10 per person, and those interested can register by emailing CoC.reddeer@gmail.com. Those who can’t make it will be able to watch a recording online on the Forever Canadian-Central Alberta Facebook page.

Norm McDougall, chair of the Council of Canadians Red Deer Chapter, said in the presentation Lukaszuk will answer the question, “Why unity matters?”

McDougall said they’re expecting a big turnout and are asking people to arrive early.

“We’ll see how it goes. I know last week we already had 50 or 60 people, just after a few days, but I think we are going to try to keep it to 100 people because of fire code issues,” he said.

“We’ll have a huge walk-up crowd, but hopefully we can fill up the place.”

Just last month, the Council of Canadians hosted approximately 150 people for a public conversation on disinformation and Alberta separation.

The presentation was given by Mount Royal University professor Duane Bratt in Red Deer.

“We were working on getting both speakers, so when we were able to get both, we figured let’s do it,” McDougall added.

“We’ll see how Lukaszuk’s message relates to Bratt’s message… I’m looking forward to him sharing his ideas.”
