Thurber improv team wins regionals, will head to Ottawa

Mar 20, 2026 | 4:30 PM

The Lindsay Thurber improv team is at it again, becoming regional champion at the recent Canadian Improv Games (CIG), Alberta region.

They now advance to the national festival in Ottawa.

“Lindsay Thurber truly represents the spirit of both Alberta and the CIG. Their sense of humour, supportiveness for each other and other schools, and fast-paced play is what stands out most,” said Dill Prusko, Alberta Regional Producer.

The competition in Ottawa runs April 15-18 with performances, workshops, and community-building. It will be livestreamed on YouTube.

The Thurber group is hosting a fundraiser March 26 at 7 p.m., featuring guest professional improvisers from Rapid Fire Theatre. There’s also a 50/50 raffle. You can follow the team’s journey on Instagram and TikTok under the handle @thurbertheatre.

The Canadian Improv Games is a national non-profit organization that teaches young people essential skills for life through competitive improvisation. Alumni report that the program has had a lasting positive impact on their mental health, sense of belonging, and confidence.

Thurber Theatre was recently the subject of an episode of The Everything Red Deer Podcast.

Their show, Newsies, runs March 19-21 at the RDP Arts Centre. More info here.
