One of two suspects arrested in alleged Blackfalds armed robbery

An arrest has been made in an alleged Blackfalds armed robbery this month.

On March 6, 2026, at 6:49 a.m. Blackfalds RCMP received a report of a robbery at the Chevron Gas station on Vista Trail in Blackfalds.

Mounties say tehir investigation revealed that two masked men in winter clothing and one carrying what appeared to be a handgun entered the store and allegdly stole cash and cigarettes. According to police, the suspects were last seen crossing Vista Trail and were believed to have fled in a vehicle. 

On March 18, 2026, with the assistance of Edmonton Police Service Robbery Section and Tactical Unit, Blackfalds RCMP say they executed a search warrant at an Edmonton residence and a suspect was arrested inside. 

Joshua Sweeney, 30, a resident of Edmonton, has been charged with: 

  • Armed Robbery with a Firearm
  • Disguise with Intent
  • Mischief

Mounties say Sweeney was taken before a Justice of the Peace and remanded into custody; his next court appearance is March 24, 2026, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer. 

Police say a warrant has been issued for the arrest of a second suspect, Edmonton city resident, Gerard Pariseau, 31. 

Cpl. Dallas Traill of the Blackfalds General Investigation Section, states in a media release, “This investigation is a great example of how collaboration between the RCMP and Edmonton Police Service leads to meaningful results. EPS was integral in the successful conclusion of this investigation.”
