Monica Andrew nominated for CCSSA Excellence in Catholic Education Award

Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools has announced that Monica Andrew, a teacher at Holy Trinity Catholic School, has been nominated for the Excellence in Catholic Education Award.

The honour is a Council of Catholic School Superintendents of Alberta (CCSSA) Award.

“Monica authentically and visibly lives her faith and shares her knowledge and passion with our youth through group programming, and she supports students and colleagues alike to explore, grow, and deepen their relationship with God,” shared Mrs. Jayme Locke, Principal of Holy Trinity Catholic School.

Red Deer Catholic says Andrew exemplifies servant leadership and willingly gives her time and energy to support students through numerous clubs and programs.

Outside of school, she also serves on multiple community boards, building strong connections between school, parish, and community.

“Through her extensive community connections, she is able to identify and access valuable programs and resources, using her network to actively support and guide students, staff, and the wider community,” stated Ms. Jodi Smith, Associate Superintendent of Personnel.

Andrew teaches math and is a school counsellor who always teaches with the whole child in mind. In addition, she is deeply invested in supporting healthy friendships in the middle school years and places a strong emphasis on wellness, regularly checking in with students about what brings them joy and encouraging physical activity and personal interests.

“Monica is deserving of this nomination as an exemplary Catholic teacher who shares her passion for faith-based education with adults and children,” said Dr. Rhonda Nixon, Superintendent of Schools. 

“The Red Deer Catholic Board of Trustees congratulates Monica on this well-deserved nomination and looks forward to celebrating the outcome at the Blueprints or Spice Catholic Education Leadership Conferences, where she will be presented with this award,” said Chris Andrew, Board Chair.
