Red Deer RCMP charge 61-year-old man followed alleged altercation involving weapons
The Red Deer RCMP have charged a 61-year-old man following an alleged altercation involving weapons in the downtown.
Velizar Zonjic of Red Deer was charged with two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, four counts of assault with a weapon, and one count of resisting or obstructing a peace officer following an alleged incident on March 2.
Police say on that day at 11:42 p.m., the RCMP responded to a 911 call that a man had attacked several people with weapons near 50 Street and 50 Avenue.
Witnesses told police that the man had allegedly struck three people on their heads and back with a cane. The suspect had also allegedly threatened another person with a knife before leaving the area on foot. The victims, police say, sustained minor injuries and declined medical assistance.
