The Red Deer Public School Division has launched a new Volleyball Skills Academy.

The academy, which will begin this fall, will be for girls in Grades 6-8 at Central Middle School and Westpark Middle School.

It’s set to offer female students an opportunity to develop their volleyball skills within the regular school day.

The 10-month program will run every second day throughout the school year, where students will take part in 80 structured sessions, including volleyball training, conditioning, and classroom-based health and wellness sessions

“Volleyball continues to grow in popularity among middle school students, particularly among female athletes,” said Dan Lower, Deputy Superintendent. “This academy will provide a supportive, high-quality training environment that focuses not only on skill development, but also on confidence, leadership, teamwork and overall wellness.”

The full program will cost each student $1,050, which will cover transportation, facility, and other training costs

Red Deer Public Schools will host an open house regarding the academy on March 25 at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre at 6:30 p.m.
