Charges laid following alleged assault in Mirror

Bashaw RCMP have laid weapons and assault charges against a 44-year-old man.

Mounties say it was at about 2:20 on Feb. 22 when they responded to a report of an assault at a home in Mirror where the victim was struck with a shotgun.

RCMP set up containment around the home, then the Alberta RCMP Emergency Response Team was deployed. After some negotiation, the suspect surrendered and was arrested.

Bashaw RCMP drafted a search warrant, and with help from the Central Alberta Crime Reduction Unit, a search warrant was conducted at the home. There, a shotgun and ammo were seized.

The victim suffered minor injuries. RCMP add the alleged assault was not random.

As a result of the investigation, RCMP have charged a 44-year-old man from Mirror with:

  • Assault by choking;
  • Assault with a weapon;
  • Uttering threats;
  • Assault;
  • Failing to comply with release conditions;
  • Weapons/Firearm offences (x5).

The accused was taken before a Justice of the Peace and remanded into custody with his next court date set for March 13, 2026 at the Alberta Court of Justice in Stettler.
