Red Deer RCMP arrest two individuals in stolen vehicle investigation

Red Deer RCMP have arrested two people following a vehicle collision in February. They also seized a firearm and located a stolen vehicle.

On Feb. 20 at approximately 6:45 a.m., police say they received a report of a stolen pick-up truck from the Inglewood area of Red Deer.

At 11:30 a.m. that same truck was involved in a collision with a van on 47 Avenue and Molly Bannister Drive.

Mounties say the Red Deer RCMP Crime Reduction Team was in the area and located the truck.

Police identified the driver and passenger of the stolen vehicle before they fled on foot from the collision. The two male suspects, who were well known to police, were arrested after the short pursuit.

Meantime, police report that the occupants of the van were not injured in the collision.

As a result of the police investigation, a total of 30 charges have been laid.

The driver, a 30-year-old man from Red Deer, was charged with 18 offences, including:

  • Motor vehicle theft
  • Possession of a device for the purpose of committing theft
  • Disguise with intent
  • Possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition
  • Unauthorized possession in a motor vehicle
  • Three counts of firearm or weapon: possession contrary to prohibition order
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle

The passenger, a 32-year-old from Red Deer, was charged with a total of 12 offences including:

  • Unlawfully possess a controlled substance
  • Motor vehicle theft
  • Possession of a device for the purpose of committing theft
  • Possession of break-in instruments
  • Possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition
  • Unauthorized possession in motor vehicle

Following two Judicial Interim Release hearings, both suspects were remanded into custody to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer on Feb. 26.
