Red Deer’s smart thermostat rebate returns for 2026
City of Red Deer PSA — The City of Red Deer is pleased to announce the return of the Smart Thermostat Rebate program, offering residents a chance to save on energy costs while improving home efficiency. The annual rebate program encourages residents to upgrade to an ENERGY STAR-certified smart thermostat and apply for a $50 rebate through The City’s utility rebate initiative.
The Smart Thermostat Rebate is open to City of Red Deer residents who purchase and install a qualifying smart thermostat at a property within city limits. To qualify for the rebate, the thermostat must be purchased in the same calendar year as the application, and only one rebate is available per utility account. Applications must be submitted by December 31, 2026.
“Smart thermostats are a simple but impactful way for residents to improve home comfort while reducing energy use,” said Phil Boehme, Community Development Coordinator. “By taking part in this program, Red Deer residents can support both household energy savings and The City’s environmental goals.”
Smart thermostats offer advanced features that can help optimize heating and cooling schedules, reduce unnecessary energy consumption, and may lower the non-fixed portion of energy bills. Participants may see energy use reductions of up to 12 percent compared with standard programmable models.
