If you are willing to stay up late tonight, you can witness a special lunar event.

The Weather Network is offering tips on how to view the total lunar eclipse, which will take place early Tuesday morning, March 3, 2026.

Also known as a “blood moon,” this is when Earth passes between the sun and the moon. A large shadow is cast across the moon’s surface, giving it a reddish-orange hue.

According to Space.com, this happens approximately once every 2.5 years.

The Weather Network says that those in Calgary (or in the Mountain Standard Time zone) will see the moon starting to get into position at around 1:44 a.m. on Tuesday.

The partial beginning of the blood moon will be at 2:50 a.m.

The total eclipse is set to start at 4:04 a.m. and end around 5:02. The partial eclipse should finish around 6:16 a.m.

Environment Canada is calling for a few clouds in the skies over Lethbridge on Monday night/Tuesday morning.

In the event the moon is not visible in your area, the Griffith Observatory will livestream the blood moon on its YouTube channel, beginning at 1:47 a.m. on Tuesday.
