NCHL Semi-Final Matchup

Eagles rebound after first loss, take 3–1 series lead over Generals

Mar 2, 2026 | 4:53 PM

The Innisfail Eagles faced their first real adversity of the post-season this past weekend and answered with a statement.

After storming out to a 2–0 series lead in their North Central Hockey League (NCHL) Semi-Final matchup, the Eagles were handed their first defeat of the playoffs Friday night on home ice. The Lacombe Generals, who had been outscored 10–1 through the opening two games, found their footing in Innisfail and used a massive four-goal second period to stun the Eagles en route to the win.

The loss narrowed the series and served as a reminder that the Generals are far from finished.

But Saturday night in Lacombe, the defending champions showed their resilience.

The Eagles regrouped and delivered a composed, determined effort on the road, reclaiming momentum with a key victory to take a 3–1 series lead. With the win, Innisfail now has the opportunity to close out the series on home ice this Wednesday night.

Head Coach and GM Ryan Dodd described the weekend as a mixed bag. He was pleased with how his team responded after Friday’s setback but acknowledged there is still work to do.

Dodd noted the team showed strong character bouncing back in Game 4, but emphasized that maintaining discipline and composure will be critical if the Eagles want to finish the job. With emotions running high in a QE2 rivalry series, staying focused and avoiding unnecessary penalties will be a major factor moving forward.

Saturday’s rebound effort reflected a more structured and controlled approach, with the Eagles tightening up defensively and capitalizing on their opportunities to regain control of the series.

Also recognized over the weekend was goaltender Wade Waters, who was named the recipient of the Eagles’ Fan’s Choice Award, a testament to not only his steady presence between the pipes but also his team-first commitment to the organization and community as a whole.
