Innisfail Mountie in hospital after vehicle rams unmarked police car

Mounties in Alberta say one of their officers is in hospital after an SUV rammed an unmarked police car on the side of a highway.

RCMP say the officer was investigating a crash near the town of Innisfail, south of Red Deer, on Thursday night and went back to his cruiser to finish paperwork.

While doing so, they say a white Ford Explorer slammed into the RCMP car, causing significant damage.

The officer was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and remains hospitalized for testing and treatment.

Mounties say the 26-year-old driver of the SUV was allegedly impaired by alcohol and a breath test showed she was nearly double the legal limit.
