Hunting Hills High School will soon present the famous musical GREASE on stage.

From March 5-8, 62 students from Hunting Hills High School will deliver multiple performances at the Arts Centre at Red Deer Polytechnic following months of preparation and rehearsals.

Grease first debuted in the 1970s and has since become one of the most beloved musicals of all time.

Those in attendance can expect a fast-paced show with high energy. They will also see the original Broadway stage version of the musical rather than the film adaptation. However, viewers can expect some moments they love from the movie.

“People will be dancing in their seats,” said Piper Rempel, Teacher at Hunting Hills, in a media release. “Even the quieter moments are full of energy. Our focus this year was connection – it’s all about ‘we go together.’”

Dance plays a major role in the production, with choreography designed to challenge and connect students.

“Audiences can expect a high-energy show, partner work, jive, and lots of movement,” said Taryn Martinek, Teacher at Hunting Hills. “There’s such a strong sense of connection because it’s GREASE.”

Taryn, along with students, has worked hard choreographing the show. Meantime, the music is brought to life by an eight-piece student band led by Amanda Fitch, Teacher at Hunting Hills.

“This show is requested year after year,” she said. “We wanted something fun that would help students reconnect.”

Rempel added that the story resonated strongly with students because they are portraying characters close to their own age.

“Even if they haven’t experienced everything their characters are going through, it’s much easier for them to relate,” she said.

The school is encouraging the community to come out and support the students.

“People need some joy and fun,” said Amanda. “It’s nostalgic, it’s joyful, and it reminds us of simpler times. Come have fun and support these students.
