City of Red Deer announces voting details for disestablishment of BIA and DBA
The City of Red Deer announced an in-person vote will be held on March 16 for the potential disestablishment of the Business Improvement Area and Downtown Business Association.
The vote is meant to gather input from the eligible BIA levy payers and is a mandatory step in the legislated process after Red Deer city council gave first reading to a bylaw that would disestablish the BIA.
Eligible voters will be able to cast a ballot in person at the boardroom at Servus Arena during advance voting on Saturday, March 14, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on voting day on March 16, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
In December, the DBA formally requested that council initiate disestablishment proceedings, but legislation requires that affected levy payers get an opportunity to vote on whether it proceeds.
