Sylvan Lake council approves budget adjustment for MGB renovations

Sylvan Lake town council has approved a budget adjustment for the municipal government building renovations.

They approved $520,800 towards the project, transferring the funds from the corporate capital reserves.

The town administration indicated that over the past five years, there has been a 10. 3 per cent increase in the community population, and with that, administration also had to grow to keep up with the needs of its citizens.

As a result, the administration has had to occupy space to complete their duties that the space wasn’t intended for and have found ways to fit new staff members into the space as they’ve hired more people. They’re now close to reaching a level, administration said, where staff will not have enough space to perform their duties safely and comfortably.

With space in the lower level of the municipal government building currently not being utilized, the administration felt renovating that space was the best solution.

When finished, the lower level will be able to have 25 work stations, three managers’ offices, and several meeting rooms with specialized work areas.

Phase one of the project will see them create 15 work stations, two managers’ offices, and one meeting room that could also be changed into a manager’s office if needed. The budget to perform phase one is $780,000
