RDP Athletes of the Week: Jan. 16-18

Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Athletics is very proud to announce Autumn Letwin (Queens volleyball) and Evan Mah (Kings volleyball) as the Boston Pizza RDP Athletes of the Week:

Autumn Letwin – Queens volleyball

Program – Bachelor of Education (5th)

Hometown – Ponoka, Alberta

Autumn Letwin, a fifth-year middle blocker, had an outstanding weekend on the court for the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens volleyball team.

In Friday’s three-set victory (25-16, 25-17 and 25-13), Letwin contributed five kills, four stuff blocks and one dig, helping the Queens down the top-seed Briercrest College Clippers at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.

On Saturday, Ponoka’s Letwin added six aces, five kills, three stuff blocks and one dig in the Queens’ sweep over the Clippers (25-17, 25-11 and 25-14).

Letwin, a Bachelor of Education student, was named the North Star Sports Queens Player of the Game.

With the wins, the RDP Queens (10-2) have moved into first place in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) South Division.

Next, Letwin and the Queens will play the Olds College Broncos on Friday, January 23.

Evan Mah – Kings volleyball

Program – Open Studies (4th)

Hometown – Calgary, Alberta

Setter Evan Mah played a key role in helping the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings volleyball team defeat the Briercrest College Clippers twice this past weekend.

In Friday’s three-set win (25-14, 25-19 and 25-16), Calgary’s Mah contributed 22 assists, three digs, two stuff blocks and two kills.

On Saturday, Mah, an Open Studies student, totalled 25 assists, four digs and two kills in the Kings’ sweep over the Clippers (25-17, 25-19 and 25-18).

He was named the North Star Sports Kings Player of the Game for running an effective offence.

The first-place Red Deer Polytechnic Kings (10-2) will compete against the Olds College Broncos on Friday, January 23.
