The 19th annual Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) Showcase is coming to Red Deer and Edmonton.

It’ll take place at the Centrium in Red Deer on Jan. 19 and 20 before moving to Rogers Place in Edmonton on Jan. 21.

League officials say the showcase will operate in a new format, which will feature six AJHL games and two Western Hockey League (WHL) games over three days.

In the showcase, all 12 AJHL teams will play one regular-season game against a team from an opposing division.

Meantime, the Red Deer Rebels will host the Regina Pats on Tuesday, Jan. 20 at 7 p.m., and the Edmonton Oil Kings will host the Pats on Jan. 21.

“This revised format is designed to allow scouts and fans to see the very best of Junior hockey by bringing the two leagues together for this premier event,” as written in the media release. “The AJHL Showcase provides invaluable exposure for our athletes to coaches and scouts at all levels, including Canadian and American colleges and universities, the WHL, and the Canadian Hockey League. Fans unable to attend can enjoy a multi-camera broadcast featuring replays, in-game interviews and guest appearances.”
