RDP Athletes of the Week: Jan. 9-11

Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Athletics is very proud to announce Raya Roesler (Queens volleyball) and Colby Nemeth (Kings volleyball) as the Boston Pizza RDP Athletes of the Week:

Raya Roesler – Queens volleyball

Program – Practical Nurse (3rd)

Hometown – Compeer, Alberta

Raya Roesler played an integral role in helping the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens volleyball team solidify two important wins against the SAIT Trojans.

Roesler, a five-foot-10 middle blocker from Compeer, Alberta, contributed nine kills (0.571), two digs and two blocks in Friday’s three-set victory (25-20, 26-24 and 25-19), earning the North Star Sports Queens Player of the Match.

On Saturday, she accumulated seven kills (0.700) and five stuff blocks in the RDP Queens’ five-set victory (25-19, 33-31, 23-25, 27-29 and 15-7).

With the weekend wins, the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens volleyball team sits in second spot in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Women’s Volleyball South Division with an 8-2 record.

Next, Roesler and the Queens will host the top-seed Briercrest College Clippers (10-1) on Friday, January 16.

Colby Nemeth – Kings volleyball

Program – Bachelor of Commerce (5th)

Hometown – Red Deer, Alberta

Colby Nemeth was dominant in the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings volleyball team’s two weekend victories over the SAIT Trojans.

Nemeth, a Bachelor of Commerce student, totalled 28 kills, six digs, one block and an ace in Friday’s five-set decision (25-19, 22-25, 20-25, 25-18 and 15-12).

He was named the North Star Sports Kings Player of the Game. Red Deer’s Nemeth added 14 kills, four digs, one block and one ace in Saturday’s three-set sweep. He was also recognized as the King’s Player of the Match.

With 42 kills in eight sets, Nemeth impressively averaged 5.25 kills per set. Nemeth and the second-place RDP Kings (8-2) will meet the first-place Briercrest College Clippers (10-1) on Friday, January 16, at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.
