Central Alberta Theatre brings Hit Canadian Comedy Book Club to Red Deer

Jan 12, 2026 | 4:47 PM

Central Alberta Theatre is inviting audiences to laugh, swoon, and cringe in all the best ways with Book Club, a fast-paced romantic comedy by acclaimed Canadian playwright Kristen Da Silva, running Feb. 6-21, 2026.

Inspired by the fast-paced humour and heart of beloved sitcoms like Friends, The Office, New Girl, Parks & Rec, and Community, officials say Book Club is a modern rom-com that feels instantly familiar and hilariously unpredictable.

Josh joined book club to get closer to Annie. Small problem: Annie has no idea. When Josh’s two friends, a confident personal trainer and a recently heartbroken nerd, realize book club might be the perfect place to meet women, the evening quickly spirals into an unforgettable (and hilariously disastrous) night.

The book itself? Barely discussed. Directed by Robyn Jeffrey and Hannah Sanson, officials say Book Club explores modern relationships, missed signals, and the hopeful messiness of putting yourself out there – all with warmth, wit, and razor-sharp dialogue.

“This show is a love letter to human connection and complicated relationship dynamics,” said Robyn Jeffrey and Hannah Sanson, Directors, in a press release. “The perfect ticket to get for a girl’s night, a date night, a Book Club meeting, any occasion!”
