Several violations by drivers in Red Deer on New Year’s Eve, say RCMP

Jan 2, 2026 | 4:32 PM

Red Deer RCMP stopped 210 vehicles on New Year’s Eve during check stops and extra patrols.

Every driver was given a mandatory alcohol screening (MAS).

Five were removed from the roads, with two failing the screening, and three issued 24-hour suspensions.

Thirteen others were given violation tickets, including one for failing to have insurance, and another for stunting, while five were issued written warnings for vehicle or driving infractions.

Throughout the month of December, Red Deer RCMP Traffic Unit conducted multiple check stops over several weekends. A total of 680 vehicles were stopped with drivers completing MAS, resulting in 10 impaired driving charges, one GDL driver found driving after consuming alcohol contrary to regulations, and 34 other violation tickets issued.

Red Deer RCMP thank members of the public for their cooperation during these check stops, and acknowledge the many drivers who were sober and had planned ahead to ensure a safe ride home.
